Later he would become a Full Professor at the Munich Academy, leading the Munich School Painters to a more coloristic approach.
Wilhelm was also the teacher of Frank Duveneck and his circle, leading the movement that would dislodge the Hudson River School with its freedom of paint application. Wilhelm was most definitely one of the lead actors in the development of American Impressionism.
